Traditional lace-making on the island of Pag in Northern Dalmatia. Teta Fani Sabalić, age 87, sits outside her house in a narrow street of Pag’s old Renaissance town centre. The sewing work is carried out without the use of any formal patterns, instead following designs passed down over generations from grandmothers and mothers to daughters, which women then personalize to create their own style – effectively making each piece unique. Pag lace-making (Paška čipka) was inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intagible Cultural Heritage in 2009.
