Anyone who has travelled in Croatia should be familiar with the large, open markets found in most towns and cities – a bustling place to shop for fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, honey, local cheeses and other dairy produce. Pula’s main market (often just referred to as the placa) is on Nardodni trg, a five-minute walk from the Arch of Sergius (a Roman triumphal arch, studied and drawn over the centuries by a succession of artists and architects including Michelangelo, Palladio and Robert Adam).
